Music selection/programming is key to a successful party, Paddy’s day is no different to any other in the sense that you need the right mix of floor fillers, singalong anthems, cheesy one hit wonders and modern classics that bring the guests back to their youth below is a short list in no particular order:

Sally MacLennane-The Pogues with its upbeat tempo it’s guaranteed to have your dance floor lit! And sure What list would be complete without Irish Celtic rock legends The Pogues.

Whiskey in the Jar-Thin Lizzy – Thin Lizzy’s version of a traditional Irish ballad whiskey in the jar is loved by old and young alike, great one to get everyone strumming the air guitar to.

I’m Shipping up to Boston- Dropkick Murphy’s –  This track from american Celtic punk group dropkick Murphy’s is not for the faint hearted,guaranteed to get the adrenaline pumping and take the dance floor up to a 10, hard to believe it was only released in 2005

The Irish Rover- The Dubliners and Pogues –  The Irish Rover has been recorded by numerous artists but this has to be the most popular version go to any St Patrick’s day event and you’re sure to hear this classic!

The Auld Triangle-Luke Kelly –  sticking with the Dubliners every Irish family has an uncle or two who likes to give this a rendition after a few pints of Guinness. 

Maniac 2000- Rualie Buaile –  Maniac 2000 is probably the most requested song at the end of every wedding night, why not mix things up with this folk band twist on it

Irish Pub Song- The High Kings –  formed in 2008 the high kings are currently one of Ireland’s top folk bands, their unique natural sounding style is perfect for any St Patrick’s day playlist

The Wild Rover-The Dubliners – Another hit by the Dubliners, when it comes to traditional Irish music you can’t go wrong with The Dubliners, and this one is sure to have the whole crowd swaying from side to side having a good old sing along

Grace-The Wolfe Tones –  another popular sing along track that has gained popularity again these last few years!

Honorable mention

Not forgetting cheesy classics like shamrock tell me ma, bewitched c’est la vie, and anything from Ireland’s two biggest boy bands Westlife and Boyzone. The truth is there are countless top Irish tracks that could of made this list, and considering St Patrick’s day falls on a Sunday this year The Boomtown Rats i don’t like Mondays might even get a spin!
